Slow cooked meals are a great way to feed the family a home cooked meal without having to stand over the stove all day. It is a wonderful thing to just be able to throw a few ingredients in a slower cooker, set the heat and timer and walk away. A slow cooker can be used to cook everything from breakfasts and dinners to desserts and even bread. Finding the right slow cooker can be a hassle, but there is one that stands out to us.
What’s the best thing about the Crock-Pot SCCPVL610-S Slow Cooker?
Glad you asked! My favorite aspect is the fact that you can do so much with the digital timer. It can be set anywhere between 30 minutes to 20 hours in 30 min increments at either high or low temperatures. This is nice because there have been many Crock-Pots in the past that allowed some time/temperature combinations, but only in specific combinations. This feature is great for those meals that need to cook overnight or for longer periods of time. After the timer is up, the slow cooker automatically turns to the warm setting. This is great for the times when the timer goes off an hour or two before I get home I know the food won’t be cold. And since the slow cooker works at such a low temperature, I also know the food won’t be burnt or overcooked.
What else should I know about this Crock Pot?
It holds a lot of food! The 6-quart stoneware is a great size for family meals. It can create a meal to fee seven or more people. You can fit a whole chicken in it or a six-pound roast comfortably. I can feed my whole family when they visit, make food for lunches to last all week in go, and even make enough for a potluck. I have made delicious meals with it for an office party and it was great to show up with warm food instead of cold cuts like my usual. And for those with a small household, don’t let this deter you. It can easily cook smaller portions as well. I had a smaller one before and it wasn’t long before I wanted a large Crock-Pot as I realized more and more what I could do with it.
Is that all?
No! One more thing I love about this Crock-Pot is its movability. The lid has an easy-to-use locking feature with lid gasket to provide a great seal. This means less mess when cooking, but it also means the Crock-Pot can easily be used to transport the food elsewhere. There is no need for me to make more dirty dishes or a mess on my counter when trying to pour the food out of the Crock-Pot and into another container. The carry handles make it easy so I don’t have to use hot pads whenever I want to pick it up. I just lock down the lid and go.
Crock-Pot has been making slow cookers for over four decades that was originally offered to assist busy moms in the kitchen so they could spend more time with their children and that need hasn’t changed. The Crock-Pot brand continues trying to offer the best slow cookers that are as evolved as the times. The innovations help to meet the demands and constraints that affect the modern-day kitchen.
Some of those features include:
- Easy-to-use locking lid featuring lid gasket provides extra seal for less mess on-the-go
- Works on 240 Watts at 120V A.C. and 60Hz
- Digital countdown control lets you program cook-times anywhere from 30 minutes up to 20 hours
- Shifts to warm setting automatically once cook-time completes
- Removable oval stoneware is stylish for any table
- 6-quart capacity is perfect for 7+ people or a 6 lb. roast
Sounds too good to be true
The only complaint I have is that there isn’t more versatility to the timers. I do love the options, but there are two features on the timer I wish this Crock-Pot had. The first one is a clock or start timer. If I know I’m going to be gone for 8 hours, but the meal only needs to cook for 6 hours, I would love to be able to set it to start in two hours. I don’t mind it sitting for that extra 2 hours, but this would still be a nice feature.
The second one is that I wish I could set the temperature to change at intervals. I have a few meals that I need to start the Crock-Pot on high for an hour or two and then change it to low temperature for another 6 hours (or vice-versa). I often set another timer to remind me to change the temperature at the right time, but it would be nice to set it and walk away. Mostly because it means I can make those meals when I know I’m going to be close enough to remember. And my family can’t always be counted on to help me with these two things, even though they do try.
Don’t just listen to me
There are 3,371 reviews on Amazon and it has 4.2 out of 5 stars rating. Over 65 percent of the reviews gave this Crock-Pot a 5-star rating! Quite a few reviews talk about how they love throwing a ingredients in it in the morning and coming home to a meal after work. They love that the Crock-Pot keeps the food warm so it doesn’t grow cold if they are running late. According to a few customers, the warm feature kept the food at serving temperature and not a tepid warm like some Crock-Pots will. Other customers are commenting about how easy it is to clean. I personally love the people commenting about how they hate to cook but this product is letting them make homemade meals and experiment more in the kitchen than they ever have. The reviews are making me want to experiment. I’ve yet to make ribs in this yet, I’ll be right back!
My verdict on the Crock-Pot
The Crock-Pot SCCPVL610-S 6-Quart Slow Cooker is a great slow-cooker for beginners and pros at slow cooking. It’s a great product for those that hate to cook and just want to set a timer, throw in food and walk away. The timer is more versatile than a lot of other slow cookers. It is also very convenient if you have to move the party somewhere else. Moreover, it is large enough for any occasion, big or small. I would recommend it to anyone eager to start learning, needs a replacement or is looking for a larger size.
